ABS-ESD7 is an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene material with electrostatic dissipative properties for applications where a static charge could destroy electronic components, impair their performance, alter magnetic media or cause fire or explosions. ABS-ESD7 will not produce a static shock or cause other materials like powders, dust and fine particles to stick to it.

Material Overview

Forge Labs uses Stratasys ABS-ESD7 material which has a surface resistance of  >10ohms/square < 10ohms/square and allows for dissipation of electrical charges generally within milliseconds. Parts are produced on the Stratasys Fortus series printers, which offers the industry's tightest tolerances & part repeatability.

Mechanical Properties

ABS-ESD7 combines the mechanical properties of ABS with electrostatic dissipative (ESD) properties. It has good tensile strength and impact resistance, similar to standard ABS, but with added ESD protection. This material is ideal for parts that must be both mechanically robust and minimize static electricity accumulation, making it suitable for sensitive electronic environments where static discharge can be a concern.

Chemical Compatibility

ABS-ESD7, like standard ABS, offers reasonable chemical resistance to many acids, alkalis, and oils. However, its ESD additive may alter its chemical compatibility slightly. It's important to test the material in specific chemical environments to ensure compatibility. Generally, it's suitable for applications involving mild chemical exposure but may be susceptible to strong solvents and aggressive chemicals.

Thermal Properties

ABS-ESD7 maintains similar thermal properties to standard ABS. It can withstand temperatures up to approximately 80-100°C. However, its ESD properties may be affected at higher temperatures. It’s ideal for applications where thermal stability is required, but not in high-temperature environments where prolonged exposure could lead to deformation or loss of mechanical integrity.
